Birthdays and Blessings

I love birthdays –especially my own. An outpouring of wishes come my way and I reflect on the year past and count my numerous blessings.

One of the most unexpected blessings to come to my porch is the arrival of a family of wrens. Each morning and evening the wren babies squawk nosily awaiting their mother’s return with some delicious bug. What an honor to have the mother wren to choose our porch to raise her young.

Last week tragedy struck the wren family. A neighborhood cat, the calculated predator she is, stalked and ate the bunch. I cried.

I also cried when I learned of the death of Adam “MCA” Yauch of the Beastie Boys. http://beastieboys.com He died a young 47 years old leaving behind a wife and daughter.

In high school when I screamed for my “right to fight to PAAARRTTTYYYY” I felt invincible. Forty-seven seemed ancient and a long way away. Now that I am approaching middle age 47 is oh so young.

To welcome my new year and the many blessings it will bring, and to celebrate the life of Adam Yauch and the wren family, I went to my Sonos system http://www.sonos.com, via an application from my iPad and found Rhapsody, a digital music service that for $10 a month allows you to listen to any musical choice you desire, whenever you want on whatever gadget you choose. http://www.rhapsody.com/freetrial2

Once on Rhapsody I found the 1986 Beastie Boys album, Licensed To Ill, the song “Fight for Your Right,” turned the volume on loud and screamed/sang.

Life is good and I am blessed.
